VIEW "HERITAGE PERSPECTIVES (ST. KITTS)" ON CULTURE BEAT SKN TV, Produced by St. Kitts Department of Culture RDU

HERITAGE PERSPECTIVES (ST. KITTS) looks at the early European visitors and settlers on St. Kitts, their impact on the first inhabitants of St. Kitts, the Kalinago (Carib)/ Amerindians, and the legacy of the predominant African/Caribbean population that remains.

In addition to this documentary,  St. Kitts Department of Culture - Research & Documentation Unit collaborated with Leiden University on a project titled “Heritage Perspectives (St. Kitts) ”, to document the opinions of Heritage Stakeholders, including; historians, researchers, and people from the community, about the following Heritage Sites; Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, Charles Fort, and Bloody Point.   View the stakeholder video interviews at the following;

"The project tries to document, archive and present the different perspectives on the multi-varied and complex heritage of the Caribbean, focused specifically on Amerindian Heritage in relation to other
forms of heritage, and within the framework of the research undertaken in the EU Nexus 1492 Project. The videos will be available in a searchable and publicly accessible database of the Nexus Project.  http://nexus1492.eu/?cat=59

In addition, the project seeks to inform local heritage management practices by visualizing the value and perspectives of stakeholders surrounding specific heritage sites in need of management, and by raising the awareness of sites though integration in local web platforms and through short
documentaries screened on TV and dissemination through social media.

On several islands, short video interviews will therefore be collected about sites and projects that are locally significant and relate as well to the research of the Nexus staff, showing how different stakeholders on the islands relate to and value different kinds of heritage. Broadly speaking, this way a better understanding can be gained about the current identifications with Amerindian heritage, (in relation to colonial and modern heritage), informing critical research on the multi-valor nature of heritage. The research will start with a pilot study on St Kitts, and is expected to be continued on
other islands in the region" Dr. Sjoerd Van der Linde

KOLLISION BAND BRINGS "BIG SHAKE" TO BELGIUM'S ANTILLIAANSE FEESTEN AUG. 8 & 9TH 2014

On Thursday August 7th Manager Shervin White and Kollision Band will leave St. Kitts for Hoogstraten Belgium to perform at the 32nd Annual Antilliaanse Feesten "The Largest Caribbean Festival in the World" on August 8th and 9th. http://antilliaansefeesten.be/  They will also perform at "Cahier de Brouillon" for the After Party on Sunday August 10th, which is the birth place of the Antilliaanse Feesten. https://www.facebook.com/cahierdebrouillon

Kollision Band is the third band from St. Kitts and Nevis to perform at this world renowned festival following in the footsteps of legendary Ellie Matt and the G. I.'s Brass in 1985 and Small Axe Band in 2008.  The two day festival caters to more than thirty-two thousand European, Caribbean, African, Latin, and a variety of Multi-Cultural visitors who come together to indulge in the best of Caribbean music, cuisine and culture.

This opportunity was made possible by St. Kitts Ministry of Culture, who has been seeking new International cultural exchange opportunities for St. Kitts-Nevis Creative and Cultural Industry Practitioners.  St. Kitts Department of Culture is committed to working with artists and artisans to help them prepare their products or services to be export ready.  By becoming a member of the St. Kitts and Nevis Creative Industry Registry (SKNCIR) you are giving visibility to your skills, products, or services and you are also added to a database that informs you about activities, workshops, and opportunities relative to your sector within the Creative and Cultural Industry. www.culture.gov.kn

St. Kitts Ministry of Culture also partnered with St. Kitts Tourism Authority in a combined effort to contribute as sponsors towards Kollision Bands trip to Belgium.  Raquel Brown, Chief Executive Officer of St. Kitts Tourism Authority immediately saw the benefit of investing in this golden opportunity to promote St. Kitts destination to a mainly European Market through the Performing Arts. St. Kitts Ministry of Culture strives to build closer relations with Ministry of Education, Ministry of Trade and other public and private agencies to foster and create an environment that will help to develop and sustain the Arts as a viable source of employment for many people. http://www.stkittstourism.kn/

After ten years of hard work Kollision Band is pleased to have this great opportunity to share St. Kitts-Nevis authentic "Wylers Music" and beautiful Culture with such a large foreign audience. From their humble beginning in 2003 they have produced many popular tunes that have left their mark on St. Kitts and Nevis National Carnival;

2009/10 “Bouncin’ Time” Bounce Pon It, Wring Off Yuh Waist, Spin

20010/1 “Jump Pon De Train” Train, Woman to Man, Jump Pon It, Wine Up

2011/12 “Nar Ease Up” Bounce, Stroke It, Stop Cut Style, Wanna Be There

2012/13 “Armed and Dangerous”  Dangerous, Big Shake, Hustle, Ride Up

2013/14 “No Respect” Anthem, Wuk Up

In 2013 Kollision Band won 2nd Place for Best Road March with their song “Big Shake”.  Then, on June 27th 2013 they performed on St. Kitts Music Festival (SKMF) by popular demand from their fans. and they have not slowed down since.  They are constantly performing at special events in St. Kitts and Nevis and throughout the Caribbean; Anguilla, Statia, Tortola, Virgin Gorda, and St. Martin.
